Food For Thought - Week 20

I consume a lot of media throughout the week. Some (most) are mindless, but some truly make me think. I’m bringing back a way to round out my week and the many thoughts that go through my mind, in hopes you’re able to take something with you. That’s always the goal. This week, I spent some time on youtube.

Something for your soul

Recently, I began watching services at One Potter House. I might have watched this twice. Truthfully, I didn’t think I was paying attention the first time and forgot I finished it. When I rewatched it, I paused and asked myself the following questions:

  1. What are you praying for that you don’t believe? Or that you haven’t acted on?

  2. What inspired your vision? Is it genuine or out of competition? What is your why?

  3. Do your actions align with that vision?

  4. What are you compromising on?

I think about the power of vision often. It can serve as a strong guiding light if it was driven by the right intentions. Is it something ordained by God or something that came out of comparison to others? Are the motives self-serving?

Do you have something you are working towards? I’d love to hear what it is and your answers to the questions.

A bit of inspiration

I love when people are excited about their passion. After watching, I felt inspired to get back to my sketchbook again. I can certainly relate to the feeling of trying to balance work and having motivation for a passion project is something. Sometimes all it takes is one moment to create. I’m trying to pick up my sketchbook for fun without the pressure of perfection.

Just for fun

Apparently quiet luxury aka stealth wealth aka old money aesthetic is trending on TikTok. I’m grateful that it has not made it to my feed yet. This video describes how contradictory the trend is and what started it. To put the trend simply, people provide tips on how to dress like you’re rich without showing flashy labels. By doing so, you’ll fit in and many find a rich partner. Many people are using the wedding of Sofia Richie to prove this point.

There has always been a fascination with how wealthy people spend their money. I totally get it, I can’t even conceive of the price tag of some things. But, this trend is contradictory at best and problematic at worst. The look that people are aspiring to recreate reaffirms the harmful beauty standards of our society. On a smaller note, no one should ever aspire to be any of the Roy children from Succession.
